Page proofs - The Bear

I spent the day reading the page proofs of The Bear.This is the second set of pages I've proofed. The first was for the UK & Commonwealth edition, which will be published at the same time as the US and Canadian editions by Harvill Secker in February 2014.I always go into reading page proofs feeling nervous. What will I find? I don't mean in the way of mistakes. I mean that it could be much worse. What if I'm bored by what I wrote?I really believe that if your book is going to work for someone else, it has to work for you. And it has to work more than once.It's a good sign, then, that I spent my day laughing and crying. Hopefully someone else out there will too.
